  • This developing technical leadership position develops and delivers technical talent in a research, technology or product development environment. Directly manages the resources that maximize workgroup productivity in support of business needs and implements near term business strategies with a focus on execution. The position also includes maintaining strong working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders both within the technical function and across the broader business.

  • Primary responsibility is the development of technically capable people often across multiple technical sitesmaking these people available to perform duties necessary to satisfy the businesses technical needs, with a focus on software for embedded controllers..

  • Provides problem resolution leadership for complex systems with a high degree of ambiguity and often global business impact; helps get teams in place.

  • Leads the development and improvement of work processes and systems across function(s) within a global business unit or managing improvement across business units.

  • Coaches and mentors employees to provide guidance and direction on resolving problems, technical know-how, removing barriers to progress and career path planning. Assesses performance and provides feedback to direct reports.

  • Creates, manages, improves and applies work processes involving activities such as resource allocation and management, organizational and business change, customer/stakeholder management and knowledge management; all used for the purposes of enabling high quality decision making that meets business expectations.

  • Decisions made in this role may include resource deployment cost and timing allocations, project prioritization, personnel staffing, and Annual Operating Plan (AOP) management, the result of which can impact project cost and delivery within a site or across several sites within a business unit.

  • Establishes employee performance standards; works collaboratively to set goals and address areas of deficiency.


To be successful in this role you will need the following:

Prior Technical area leadership, Technical Project Leadershipor entry level Technical/Engineering Management equivalent work experience in a product, technology or engineering service role with demonstrated success leading projects and influencing outcomes through either direct or indirect reporting relationships. Must have a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving, quality decision making, providing technical direction and leadership to a project team(s) and conflict resolution.

In a supervisory role, leads a team of Software Engineers (US, India Contract) through establishing technical direction, priorities, and timelines to deliver software features and builds used inPower Systems Products. Influences technical direction within a project team including the review and approval work completed by team members, suppliers and partners. Tracks issues and corrective action status of the team, assigns tasks to the team to implement design changes, and provide status reports to project leaders.

Leads team of Software Engineers, Leveraging the MathWorks (i.e. Matlab/Simulink) toolchain andCummins SWdevelopment environment to create models used to produce application software for engines used in Power Systems applications (Generators,Off-highway, Defense, Mining, & Marine). Coaches and develops team of technically capable people across a wide range of experience levels and technical sites. Develops team in the tools and processes needed to delivercontrolsoftware used inPower Systems products.

Aligns technical coordination of product development activities by interfacing with internal and external suppliers and development teams to ensure all technical content delivered by the team, meets customer deliverables. Provides problem resolution leadership for complex system issues. Leads team in the planning of software feature releases and the creation of labeled builds of product software. Leads execution of software life-cycle management using industry tools (Integrity, Gitlab, Teams, ETAS – INCA,Jira,etc…)

Advances the software quality of the team. Instructs others in best practices, leads and establishescode-review processes. Complies with, improves and creates software quality processes. Supports internal and external process quality audits.

Performs systems design/architecture for portions of a controls design. Including: development and maintenance of requirements; requirements allocation; architecture definition and review; definition of interfaces (API); system modeling and verification testing; and full design documentation and configuration management.

Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
