We are looking for a talented PRODUCT SUPPORT TECHNICIAN to join our team specializing in Engineering for our engine business segment in Rocky Mount, NC.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
Solves engine assembly problems in real time to ensure delivery of product to customers, directly impacting customer satisfaction.
Utilizes Computer Aided Design (CAD) and data management tools to investigate product fitment issues.
Collaborates with other Engineering and Quality teams to ensure safe implementation of temporary and permanent solutions.
Ensures application of company, industry, national, and international standards to protect quality and throughput targets for engine production.
Processes internal engineering work requests.
Engages with required functional areas as needed.
Participates in the maintenance of standards and practices which ensure quality.
Participates in limited builds of new product designs and provides feedback to designers on potential improvements, directly impacting the final form of the product in the field.
Qualifications - External
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
Mechanical Design Specification - Verifies form and fit specifications using solid models, configured Engineering bill of materials and detailed drawings that cross-functionally communicate the information required to manufacture and inspect a product per its design intent; considers national, international, industry, and Cummins’ standards that accurately and concisely define the part specification.
Mechanical Design Modeling and Analysis - Uses Computer Aided Design models to perform various system-level computer analyses such as Dimensional Variation Analysis and Finite Element Analysis.
Product Configuration and Change Management – Facilitates temporary and permanent changes to product configuration and design requirements in response to errors and omissions discovered in original Engineering release work.
Mechanical Design of Mechanical Systems - Acquires and applies an in-depth understanding of mechanical systems through working knowledge from both hands-on and simulation-based activities. Provide feedback that guides a designer’s ability to create innovative and sound design concepts to meet Cummins and customer expectations to ensure a robust system.
Education, Licenses, Certifications
High school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience to the extent such experience meets applicable regulations.
A regionally applicable Certification (e.g. US Department of Labor) or two year Associates Degree from an accredited college program in a relevant field of study is preferred.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience
PRIMARY DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND CHARACTERISTICS:
This role is primarily responsible for addressing product issues that impact the Cummins Rocky Mount Engine Plant production lines, both component machining and final product assembly. This is a front line problem solving role that will require Critical Thinking skills, determination, organization, and the ability to work under time constraints to protect production schedules. This role is a mix of hands-on activities and desk work interfacing with multiple software environments, internal combustion engines, and engine components.
This role requires the ability to create multi-slide PowerPoint presentations for both targeted and wide audiences to effectively communicate problem statements and solutions.
This role requires a team-oriented mindset to work within a highly collaborative structure for effective problem solving in a fast paced production environment.
This role requires a responsible, self-motivated individual who is focused on continuous improvement and personal growth. A successful team member is someone who derives satisfaction from solving problems in real time and is determined to prevail in less than ideal conditions.
This role requires achieving proficiency with multiple software environments that are unique to Cummins such as IMS, COLS, and CMES, plus MS applications, Sharepoint, Windchill, Creo (3D modeling), and other third party software.
NOTE: this position will be attached to the team supporting the introduction of new product programs until January 2025. As those programs are transitioning to full production (Current Product status), this position will transfer to the permanent team assignment supporting product issues affecting daily production. The expectation is that the successful candidate will serve as the Subject Matter Expert for the new incoming product and will transfer that knowledge to their teammates while learning those same aspects of the legacy product from them.

Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
