The Application Engineer - Power Generation for Data Centers is a dual customer/product focused position serves as the senior technical liaison between OEMs and represents our customers during new product development programs. Applying Cummins’ products to customer vehicles requires the development of technical specifications, implementing new design configurations, and delivering high performance, low-cost equipment and system solutions integrated with customers’ products in a variety of applications. Integrating high quality and optimized customer solutions requires the interaction with sales and marketing teams.This positions supports the Data Center sales team for North America primarily focusing on the balance of plan items and commissioning activities.
This is an exciting opportunity in Portland, OR for a Application Engineer . Your impact will happen in these and other ways:
Assist with enclosure, main circuit breakers, and other balance of plan design, review and technical conformance. Cummins has a global application engineering group that is primarily tasked with the engineering support of the generator; this position works primarily with the design review, selection & validation of the locally sourced items such as: enclosures, fuel tanks, circuit breakers, fuel polishers, etc.
One of the other main tasks will include supporting the commissioning process including script creation (factory witness tests at enclosure manufacturer's facility & field test), interfacing with the end users' commissioning leaders to help them develop commissioning standards and ensure the sales and project teams are aware of the testing scope, and assistance on commissioning issue resolution as needed. In addition, occasional leadership of factory witness tests and field tests when the team's Commissioning Engineer has scheduling conflicts.
Assist the Sales and Project team with technical support including simple interconnect drawing creation, training documentation assistance, etc... In addition, occasional assistance with technical performance issues mainly related to the balance of plan equipment.

Experience, Education, Licenses, and Certifications :
College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or other relevant technical disciplines is required.
Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making.
Application engineering experience, both mechanical and electrically proficient. Ability to use CAD software to create simple custom interconnect and mechanical drawings.
Must have power generation experience and be familiar with enclosure, circuit breaker and other balance of plan design and selection.
Good communication skills and a willingness to work in a team environment needed.
Ability to travel to vendor facilities, factory witness tests and field tests will be required. On average it is not expected to be more than 20%
