Description
We are looking for a talented Sr. Electrical Engineer to join our #Accelera by Cummins business unit located in Mississauga, ON.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
This product focused position tailors electronic systems for Cummins products. People in these positions will configure (tune), integrate, test, and release software, electronic control units, tools, sensors, actuators, and harnesses into an electronic system that controls the operation of Cummins’ products in a variety of customer applications.
Investigates electronic application and systems problems, understands causal mechanisms, recommends appropriate action, owns problem resolution and documents results
Applies and improves electronic application and systems development processes and tools. Processes include system specification, modelling and simulation, calibration, Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R), and troubleshooting. Tools include Simulink, calibration tools, and PTC Integrity .
Obtains input and negotiates with product and software development teams and delivers control system designs, verified and calibrated software features and builds to product teams
Responsible for review of less-experienced developers/testers’ work to ensure robust, reusable, and efficient design.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
Specifies electronic hardware and interconnections that measure and control systems; applies electronic hardware and interconnections in Cummins' products.
Combines various parts or sub-systems into a whole to achieve the output most desired by the customer; applies Cummins' installation requirements using our standard tools, processes and identified best practices to ensure optimization of performance, reliability, cost and quality; analyzes technical issues using proven problem-solving and troubleshooting techniques for rapid resolution.
Impacts product design decisions through the utilization and/or interpretation of computational tools and methods that predict the capability of a product's function relative to its system, sub-system and/or component level requirements.
Education, Licenses, Certifications
College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.
Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience Required:
Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making. Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred
At least 6 year of experience handling electrical design activities focused on Low Voltage design and Drafting for North America Market.
Skills and competencies:
Must hold Ontario P.ENG License
Electrical components calculation, selection, and integration: Protections, Motors Starters, Variable Frequency Drives, Switches, LV transformers, etc.)
Conductors’ calculation and sizing and wiring diagrams.
Panels design and construction for North America (UL stamped).
Experience with the following standards UL508, UL508A, NFPA79, NFPA 70, CSA equivalencies and other standards for North America.
Experience with electrical design international standards IEC and IEEE.
Good command of at least one electrical design software like Eplan P8, WSCAD, SEE Electrical, E3.Series, Electra E8
Experience with projects for Hazard Location specially in North America.
Basic understanding in Distributed Control Systems and its topologies and components: PLCs, RIOS, HMI, Switch, Gateway, etc.
Basic understanding of control engineering: Automata, Communication protocols, Control signals, I/O lists
Basic understanding and interpretation of P&IDs.
Experience elaborating FAT and SAT protocols and supporting commissioning.
Basic knowledge in MV/LV distribution systems.
Basic knowledge in power electronics: Rectifiers, Inverters, IGBTs, Tiristors
Some experience with European design standards or designing panels for European market (CE stamped)
Basic knowledge in functional safety procedures (SIL levels, Hazards analysis, Risk Matrix
