Our Distribution Business Unit in Europe consists of a distributor and dealer support network. They deliver reliable sales and service of durable and high performing engine, generator set and aftermarket products to our regionally based (global) partners. This is an exciting opportunity in Gross Gerau, Germany for an Applications Engineer.

Your impact will be seen in these and other ways:

  • You will be the technical face of Cummins for customers of our mid-sized engine products.

  • Working alongside an OEM Account Manager, you will gather functional and technical requirements for new and updated engines and generator sets.

  • Our OEM customers operate in the field of on and off-highway automotive vehicles (trucks, buses, road-surfacing machines, agricultural equipment such as tractors and combine harvesters, and static machinery such as waterpumps and air-compressors).

  • Working cross-functionally within Cummins’ European customer function, you will gather and leverage technical expertise across all areas of engine development, including mechanical, thermal, electrical, fuel systems, emissions and calibration.

  • You will spend a large proportion of your working time working directly with customers, understanding their specifications, their end-user requirements, and ultimately, you will play a key part in helping them to bring innovative and successful products to market – powered by Cummins.

  • In tandem with Cummins’ global product engineering teams, you will provide the customer with technical advice, fabrication drawings and tooling information to enable the development of pre-production engine prototypes.

Qualifications

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Exposure to Powertrain product development and / or testing.

  • Understanding of varied on- and off-highway vehicle and static machinery engine applications.

  • An ability to work independently, balanced with a strong teamwork ethic.

  • A strong ability to influence and engage various technical teams within Cummins’ global product engineering function to ensure the best possible customer outcomes and satisfaction levels.

  • Fluent German and English – spoken and written – are essential.

  • Presentation skills – ability to summarise and convey complex technical information to a variety of audiences.

Required Education, Licenses or Certifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, OR

  • Equivalent vocational qualification, e.g. Werkstattmeister

  • Driving licence
