Technical Project Leader - Technology Development: Eaton Cummins Automated Transmission Technologies
This dual product/project focused, developing leadership position leads the overall technical coordination of complex product development activities and is accountable for the project management of technical risk and quality of the product up to and including early production. This position integrates the requirements of the many interdisciplinary and cross functional stakeholders of product development, often involving difficult decisions that impact cost and delivery without sacrifice to the quality expectations of the value package profile.
Obtains input and negotiates with program leadership, customers, customer teams, product engineers or technology teams to deliver robust prototype and production designs, technical risk mitigation plans, and coordinated deliverables of new or current product change activity.
Other important stakeholders of this role include preferred partner suppliers, manufacturing, purchasing, technical leadership and marketing teams.
Makes decisions in the areas of design and project risk trade-offs that impact program cost or delivery without sacrifice of quality expectations.
Main focus will include working in business processes of Product Preceding Technology (PPT), Value Package Introduction (VPI) or Current Product Support (CPS) and using tools such as Product Development Six Sigma (PDSS), iDFMEA, Voice of the Customer and Voice of Other Stakeholders (VOC/VOX), Integrity, MS Office Suite, New Unique and Difficult (NUD) and project risk 9-box and Value Package Introduction - Project Portfolio Management (VPI-PPM), all required to support high quality decision making.
Provides problem resolution leadership for complex systems with a high degree of ambiguity and often global business impact.
Leads the development and improvement of work processes and systems across function(s) within a global business unit or managing improvement across business units.
Coordinates and directs work of technical project teams, up to and including direct management of small to mid-sized teams.
Operates as the recognized multi-competency specialist or expert in a discipline or product area across a site or global business unit with responsibility for developing local talent (direct or indirect).
Coaches and mentors other engineers, project managers and cross-functional team members.
May also include academic or industry collaboration in a competency or discipline area.
Project Management - Establishes and maintains the "Balanced Triangle" of Scope, Schedule and Resources for a temporary effort (a "project").
Product Development Execution, Monitoring and Control - Plans, schedules, coordinates and executes the activities involved in developing a product to a respectively aligned hierarchy of requirements and technical profiles; monitors and communicates across functional boundaries to meet project resource and quality expectations; ensures product capability meets or exceeds expectations and takes mitigating actions when project risks are higher than expected; understands the full product life cycle process and stakeholders.
System Requirements Engineering - Uses appropriate methods and tools to translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements to which designs are developed; establishes acceptance criteria for the system of interest through analysis, allocation and negotiation; tracks the status of requirements throughout the system lifecycle; assesses the impact of changes to system requirements on project scope, schedule, and resources; creates and maintains information linkages to related artifacts.
Systems Thinking - Defines the system of interest by drawing the boundaries, identifying its context within its environment, its interfaces, and that it has a lifecycle to aid in planning the problem statement, scope and deliverables ; analyzes linkages and interactions between elements that comprise the system of interest by using appropriate methods, models and integration of outcomes to understand the system, predict its behavior and devise modifications to it in order to produce the desired effects.
Product Platform Development - Integrates all of the market and key customer needs of a given product platform into a comprehensive and holistic development plan; verifies platform capability for all planned and approved architectural variants within the boundaries of market use rather than the boundaries of any single customer within the target usage markets.

Education, Licenses, Certifications
College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or other relevant technical disciplines is required.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Demonstrated success having worked in a Technical Specialist/Specialist Engineering role on lower complexity product development activities, translating customer needs and negotiating into product development plans, technical profiles and/or product specifications with a proven track record of successful product decisions.
-Provide technical project leadership in the execution of automated transmission new product development.
-Technical project leader for large and/or multiple projects. Example of a large project involves significant complexity and new platform development, and $10s of millions project development expense over several years.
-Lead a global technical functional team, including systems, controls, platform engineering, and technical specialists.
-Represent the technical function as part of the overall cross functional program core team led by the program manager, and together with operations, supply chain, finance, marketing, etc.
-Establish requirements, integrated schedule, milestone deliverables, technical project plans
-Manage global technical resource planning, including alignment with global technical functional leaders on skill sets needed and resource allocations.
-Maintain technical project expense forecast and track actuals vs. plan.
-Lead design and technical functional reviews, issue resolution and risk mitigation planning.
-Communication to technical management review group on project progress, barriers, support needed.
-10 plus years in engineering, minimum 5 years experience similar role.
-Highly effective communicator, team leader.
-Project leadership skills and experience- Planning, scheduling, forecasting, task management/ delegation.
-New product development quality management, ISO systems.
-Technical knowledge and industry experience- Prefer experience with commercial powertrain, hardware and/or software development.
-Experience with six sigma tools and methods.
-Global engagement- Experience working with domestic and global partners and customers.
