Senior Applied Mechanics Engineer

We are looking for a talented Senior Applied Mechanics Engineer to join our team specializing in durability testing and engine instrumentation for our Power Systems Business Segment in Daventry.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Conducting experiments via third party and in-house tools to determine structural performance of components and systems, thus determining the validity of the design to meet the customer requirements

  • Investigating product and system problems, understanding causal mechanisms, recommending appropriate action, owning problem resolution and documenting results with guidance from more experienced team members

  • Executing and improving established processes primarily documented in detailed local and global work instructions (EPs) that are required in Engineering Standard Work (ESW) and/or Design Validation Plans (DVP&R)

  • Obtaining input from Design, Thermal Sciences, Materials and Product Validation groups and delivering key structural performance measurements like motion, load, natural frequencies, stress, design margin, life, sound power to Design and Product Validation

  • Owning problem resolution for moderately complex components, products, systems, subsystems or services with a greater degree of technical complexity and ambiguity over the entry level engineer level and with greater accountability to the project team

  • Providing independent execution of established work processes and systems, while still developing technology or product knowledge; engaging with the improvement of systems and processes

  • Contributing effectively toward team goals, exhibiting influence within a work group and continuing to develop proficiency in the competency areas critical to success in the role

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Bachelors/Masters in STEM-related subject – engineering, maths or physics ideal

  • Previous experience working with engines or generator sets is beneficial

  • Strong desire to develop in a deep technical subject

  • Communication skills to translate the results of a test into meaningful insights delivered to customers internal and external

  • Understanding of the internal and external loadings an engine undergoes during operation is advantageous

  • Previous experience of project management would be nice to have

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary between £31000-£42600

  • Defined contribution pension scheme - company contributions up to 9%
