Studying towards a Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree in a Project Management, Engineering or related discipline (including Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry).

About the Role

The role of Product Release Assistant Placement will be to act as a member of the Daventry Product Release and Integration team as they support new product introductions by ensuring release activity adheres to the corporate product definition standards. As a student within the team you will assist the Product Release Integrators by creating engineering product release documents, maintain unique parts listings, track open issues and attend design reviews and project update meetings. You will provide a link between the Design teams and manufacturing departments as they prepare for engine builds and project milestones.

The day to day role is very similar to project management and involves interaction with the designers and engineers working on new or next generation products, assisting and advising them to progress the project. The work is very Dynamic and varied with exposure to all departments and a wider range of people than other placement roles.

We are a Global company and thus have global teams, you will be expected to interact and communicate with the Global team. Engineering releases are the tool we use to communicate the new design details of the product to the rest of the corporation, to do this effectively requires knowledge of how each different business unit uses the data – during the placement previous students have found the interaction with the different business units and with the different engineering groups very useful in providing an insight into how the many business units of large corporations need to collaborate.

For anyone studying engineering who is unsure of exactly which area of engineering they may want to work in our role is very good for gaining experience without committing to one role.

Your impact will be seen in these and other ways

  • Work with the design integrators and provide guidance to Engineers to prepare, write and submit engineering release documentation per the corporate standards.

  • Liaise with the Power Systems VPI teams.

  • Manage engineering releases through the Windchill and NPID systems.

  • Where applicable assist the Design Integrators by maintaining data in NPID to ensure accuracy and through regular data extracts and report creation.

  • Attend design reviews, model builds and regular program meetings where applicable.

  • Provide training to new starters where appropriate.

  • Participate in Functional Excellence activities.

  • Support Product Release future state initiatives.

  • Maintain close links with the Corporate Configuration Management and Design integration teams.

  • Engineering Standards - basic knowledge in Engineering Standards.

  • Technical Documentation - basic knowledge in Technical Documentation.

  • Structured Design Processes – understand and be able to describe the purpose, content and steps in developing/ managing of an engineering design project

  • Uses prescribed and innovative methods and works with limited guidance.

  • Participates as a team member and actively contributes towards team goals.

  • Carries out partially defined and moderately complex tasks.

Starting with a comprehensive induction programme, throughout the placement you will be provided with training in sector specific technologies as well as general training such as presentation and communication skills, structured problem solving and Cummins practices and procedures.

College, university, or equivalent degree in Mechanical/AutomotiveEngineering or a related subject required. Project Management disciplines also considered.
