Placement - Design Integrator Assistant

You will received on the job training and take part in a structured Training & Development Programme designed to give the skills and competencies required for future graduate roles.
The role of Design Integrator Assistant Placement will be to act as a member of the Daventry Design Integration team as they support new product introductions by ensuring release activity adheres to the corporate product definition standards. As a student within the team you will assist the Design Integrators by helping to write engineering release documents, maintain unique parts listings, track open issues and attend design reviews and project update meetings. You will provide a link between the Design teams and manufacturing departments as they prepare for engine builds and project milestones.
Work with the design integrators and provide guidance to Engineers to prepare, write and submit engineering release documentation per the corporate standards.
Liaise with the Power Systems VPI teams.
Manage engineering releases through the corporate dropbox and NPID systems.
Where applicable assist the Design Integrators by maintaining data in NPID to ensure accuracy and through regular data extracts and report creation.
Attend design reviews, model builds and regular program meetings where applicable.
Provide training to new starters where appropriate.
Participate in Functional Excellence activities.
Support Product Release future state initiatives.
College, university, or equivalent degree in Mechanical/Automotive Engineering or a related subject required. Project Management disciplines also considered.
Self-motivated and able to manage own projects.
Attention to detail.
Interest in knowing how things work.
Ability to work and communicate with cross-functional groups.
Practical approach to support technical investigation and evaluation.
A sound understanding of mechanical engineering principles and calculations, with the ability to apply them.
A keen interest in internal combustion engines is desirable.
The role will provide excellent experience for your CV and an introduction to an engineering role in industry. A mentor will be there to guide you through your placement year. The following training will be provided:
Training in Corporate systems such as Oracle, and familiarisation with other business software.
Cummins standard training for new employees: Engine build awareness, introduction to six sigma and other professional practices.
Job specific training, e.g. Cummins Information Management System, Corporate Product Release process.
IMechE mentor provided to work towards professional status via MPDS scheme.
Coaching to enable the development of other business skills.
4 x 1 day workshops through an external training provider: Adapting to Professional Environments, Effective Communication and Presentation Skills, Team Work, Customer Care.
