Cummins Inc. Electrochemistry Specialist in Columbus, Indiana
We are looking for a talented Electrochemistry Specialist to join our team. This role is based in Columbus, Indiana and offers a hybrid schedule. The candidate would be expected to report to the work site 3 days a week.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
Enable a high standard towards testing of lithium-ion batteries and support of various internal and customer-oriented projects.
Provide technical expertise, utilizing detailed knowledge and understanding of electrochemical properties and materials chemistry of Li-ion energy storage cell technology, to provide support and assistance for Customer, R&D and new product introduction projects. Support R&D projects to deliver against agreed budget, time and scope parameters.
Conduct battery forensic analysis to support the battery design, manufacturing improvement and negotiation with suppliers. Substantial work or research in the field of electrochemistry.
Developing product systems validation plans from a variety of inputs to identify failure modes, while managing product risk and relative priority; negotiates product requirements against capability to guide project scope; evaluates analytical, simulation and physical test results to verify product capability and validate requirements
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
Ph.D. or M.S. degree in chemistry, materials science and engineering or physical sciences required 3 years of experience
Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience (3 plus years) in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making.
Experience and knowledge in Li-ion battery technology, ideally with experience with Li-ion batteries in automotive industry. Hands-on work attitude is a must.
Knowledge and understanding of electrochemical properties and materials chemistry, idea from both a commercial and research-based Li-ion energy storage cell technology background. Additional knowledge and experience in battery failure analysis is seen as an asset.

Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
