We are looking for a talented Advanced Controls Technical Leaderto join our team specializing in Cummins Emissions Systems for our Component Business Segment in Columbus, IN.

People in these positions will have involvement in specification, design, implementation, testing and/or release of software that controls the operation of Cummins’ products in a variety of customer applications.
Will lead development of physics-based robust controls and diagnostic models/algorithms targeted for software integration across all global CES aftertreatment platforms and products. Focuses team’s work plan on development of controls models/algorithms for critical New, Unique and Difficult (NUD) requirements well in advance of needs. Collaborates with CES Platform Controls to seamlessly integrate controller concepts and models into CES software architecture and development plans.
Investigates highly difficult or specialized embedded software problems, understands causal mechanisms, recommends appropriate action, owns problem resolution and documents results. Creates, manages, improves and applies embedded software development processes and tools.
Processes include model based development, coding, compiling and test. Tools include Simulink, code editors, integration tools, static analysis tools, compilers and hardware in the loop test tools. Obtains input and negotiates with product and software development teams and delivers verified software features, components, builds to product teams.
Uses systems knowledge and expertise to make decisions in the areas of software requirements, architecture, design, and test that impact the quality and performance of software builds, product lines (platforms) and management of cross-BU integration and coordination.
Provides problem resolution leadership for complex systems with a high degree of ambiguity and often global business impact. Leads the development and improvement of work processes and systems across function(s) within a global business unit or managing improvement across business units. Operates as the recognized multi-competency specialist or expert in a discipline or product area across a site or global business unit with responsibility for developing local talent (direct or indirect).
Actively engages and collaborates across global Cummins technical organizations (e.g., Research and Technology, CES Advanced Engineering, etc.), OEM delivery partners, and other industry/academia leaders to deliver new controls models and technologies to address most critical aftertreatment product needs for global markets. Works to help ensure technical controls/modeling alignment within all Cummins technical organizations.
* Education, Licenses, Certifications*
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or other relevant technical disciplines is required. Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area desired.
* Experience *
Prior Technical Specialist/Specialist Engineering equivalent work experience (7 plus years) in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving, quality decision making and providing technical direction and leadership to a project team(s).
Requires expert experience and skill in controls and full system modeling/simulation for plant and controller models. Expert in modeling of physical systems (e.g. DEF dosers) and fluid-mechanics and thermodynamics fundamentals to help define controller requirements. Aftertreatment systems and controls expertise and product delivery experience.
Collaborates with Cummins and non-Cummins engine OEM’s to define and manage engine to aftertreatment controls interfaces (e.g., thermal management) to ensure optimized controls for the machine/system. Works to manage changes to interfaces due to machine level optimization (e.g., start-stop, hybrids, etc.).
Identifies controls technology gaps, plans advanced controls projects, and delivers world-class controls models to address gaps. Maintains technology funnels to coordinate and communicate development, and product introduction of controls models and virtual sensors.
Leads development of innovative controls technologies, patent submissions, and technical reviews in support of the CES Invention Review Committee (IRC). Develops, improves and follows disciplined workflow (e.g., PPT Gate process, OBD 8-step) to ensure robust controls. Leads development of aftertreatment modeling, simulation and related tools to improve engineering productivity through automation. Leads training on modeling and simulation tools to global CES controls teams to help drive model-based development workflow.
