Chief Mechanical System Designer - SOxC


We are looking for a talented SOxC Chief Designer – Technical Director to join our team specializing in New Power Business Segment based in Malta, NY or Fridley, MN or Columbus, IN.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • The SOxC chief designer is responsible in leading the SOxC mechanical system design including the cell/stack, BoP as well as any secondary enclosures required for the various applications in support of business development strategies. The chief designer oversees the complete SOxC product lines. The chief designer is the key leadership in developing product line strategies, including common components across different products, long term technology roadmaps as well as team capability development

  • This technical leadership position develops and delivers technical talent in a research, technology, or product development environment. Directly manages the resources that maximize organizational productivity in support of business needs and establishes/implements longer term business strategies. The position also includes maintaining strong working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders both within the technical function and across the broader business.

  • Provides technical leadership for the business's most complex global technical challenges. Sets the direction for the development and improvement of work processes and systems across function(s) within a global business unit or across business units.

  • Coaches and mentors, the future technical leaders across a global business unit or corporate area. Assesses performance and provides feedback to direct reports.

  • Develops strategies, creates, or improves work processes involving activities such as resource allocation and management, organizational and business change, customer/stakeholder management and knowledge management; all used for the purposes of enabling high quality decision making that meets business expectations.

  • Decisions made in this role may include resource deployment cost and timing allocations, project prioritization, personnel staffing, and Annual Operating Plan (AOP) management, the result of which can impact project cost and delivery within a site or across several sites within a business unit.

  • Establishes employee performance standards; works collaboratively to set goals and address areas of deficiency.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

University, or equivalent bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other relevant technical disciplines is required. This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.


Proven leadership as a Technical Advisor or Technical/Engineering Senior Manager (8 plus years) working in a product, technology, or engineering service area with a successful track record of developing technical talent and enabling high performing teams that deliver on project expectations through a range of varying business scenarios and/or life cycles. Advanced level proficiency in many of the enterprise and functional competency areas.

  • Candidate is expected to have demonstrated strong background in mechanical system design, 3Dmodeling, structural, thermal and CFD analysis.

  • Candidate is also expected to follow system engineering processes including the usage of the evolving internal tools and processes.

  • Equally importantly, the candidate is expected to be an expert in managing the life cycle of a new product design process, i.e., concept generation, requirement management, design review, validation, and releases.

  • Candidate will be managing a cross functional team in multiple locations.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
