Placement - PSBU Technical Territory Engineer

The Power Systems business unit comprises of Cummins High Horse Power engines (with displacements from 1995Litres used in mining, marine, oil & gas, rail and construction applications) and Cummins power generation products (which include engines from 1.3 Litres right upto 95 Litres (upto 5,500 HP) with alternators and are sold as complete units or part thereof). Cummins also specializes in various engine technologies like the exhaust after-treatment systems, turbochargers and filtration for Air, Fuel and Lube.

The Darlington site, produces around 40,000 diesel engines every year while the Daventry site is dedicated to designing and developing Cummins High Horse Power Engines. Together they cover key manufacturers in each segment across globe. The European Technical Centre, based at the Darlington site was instrumental in emissions to the near-zero levels of Euro 6 for Cummins powered trucks and buses.

The regional service engineering team provides dependable service support across globe. We care about customer success, respond in urgency and always aim to exceed customer expectations.

This job role is focused on regional technical leadership, communication and problem definition for a wide variety of field issues. Providing a factory level support to Global Cummins and Distributor entities for High Horse Power engines and Generators in a wide variety of applications/installation. This is assisted by using a variety of tools for collection and analysis of engine operation data. The key measure is to ensure engine uptime for customers.


  • Assist in managing Cummins defined global territories focusing on customer and service results as a part of PSBU Service Engineering Organization.

  • During the course of placement develop towards working directly with Service Engineers in respective zones.

  • Help with prioritisation and escalation of issues requiring additional Factory level support.

  • Participate in liaising with original equipment manufacturers and customers to understand and resolve product issues.

  • Where possible - participating in engine tear downs and component failure analysis to assist Field Service, Warranty and Engineering with problem definitions.

  • Develop and improve diagnostic techniques when published troubleshooting procedures have been exhausted.

  • Actively participate on cross-functional problem solving teams.

Training provided:

  • High horse power engine appreciation course will be provided.

  • Training on Cummins RADAR which is a dynamic web based interface for identification and prioritization of engine down incidents in any part of the globe.

  • In addition we will train you to develop any skills which the role would require such as component failure analysis, engine teardown procedure, six sigma methodology, Fault Tree Analysis.

  • We would also provide you with a IMECHE mentor for your MPDS course towards CEng.


Skills and experience required:


  • Flare for learning with an open mind towards looking at engine/equipment related issues (Mechanical & Electrical).

  • General understanding of engines and components but will gain more in this job role.

  • Basic user level knowledge of computers – MS Office software, Email clients, SKYPE.

  • Knowledge of statistical tools (for example Minitab) will be an added advantage but it is not mandatory.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

  • Studying towards a BEng/MEng honours degree in Mechanical, Automotive or equivalent discipline.


  • Minimal relevant experience required.
